Nicole Echevarria- Reflection 2
For our second-class presentation, we had to present for an hour and improved since the first one. Our topic was about “Election Matter”, and each group focused on a different issue including school policies, gender equality, immigration, and the electorate and the election process. I learned more about how each topic affects today's elections from these presentations.
Our group was the first to present for this project which a bit exciting and nerve racking at the same time. Our topic was about Education policies which is the plans candidates make about improving schools and learning opportunities. Education is an important election issue since these policies have the power to greatly impact voters who care about it. We worked hard as a team and put in a lot of effort to gather good research. I think we showed a lot of growth and improvement since the first project. This time, our presentation flowed much better, and we organized our ideas in a way that was clear and easy to follow. Our goal was to make sure that the audience caught the points we made without feeling confused. My part was about on how Republicans might approach education policies. I researched their views and shared how they might speak on these issues to attract voters. I felt more confident this time and was proud of myself. We also created a brochure to go along with our presentation. We made sure it was simple and easy to understand so the audience could quickly capture the main points. Overall, I’m really happy with how we did as a group. We presented with confidence, made our points clear, and I think we really connected with our audience.
For group 3 presentation their topic was about the electorate and the election process. They explained that everyone who can vote are the electorate, and that the election process is how these people choose candidates or make decisions on important issues. One of the speakers specifically had an impact when he talked about what democracy means. He shared his own view as someone with Cuban experience, explaining the difference between democratic values and the reality in Cuba, where most of power is controlled by the government rather than the people. This caught the attention of many in the audience, especially those with experience or understanding of Cuba’s situation. The rest of the group also did an excellent job talking about the important issues related to elections. They presented in a way that kept the audience interested and showed that they put a lot of thought into the topic. Overall, they did an amazing job on explaining their ideas in a way that was easy to understand and impactful.
For the 2 group their presentation their topic included on gender equality which spoke about the means equal opportunities for all genders in voting and representation. I was really impressed by how organized and thoughtful their presentations were. It was especially moving to hear them talk about the struggles women face in the fight for their rights and equality. They went into detail about important issues like women’s rights to abortion, the pay gap between women and men in sports, and many other situations where women still face inequality. Their presentation made me think deeply about the challenges women face every day. They did a great job on explaining these issues and showed how important it is to continue fighting for equality.
Lastly group 1 presentation their topic was on immigration which shows the policies of different candidates on how people move into the country. One of the speakers interviewed an immigrant who is close to them which was their mother. During the interview, her mother shared her experiences of living in Cuba under the harsh conditions of communism, explaining the struggles and difficulties she faced. Listening to her interview I related to her experience. Since my family has experienced similar difficulties, I can only image how difficult it must have been for them to start a new life in the US. Their speech made it clear to me how challenging it might be for immigrants to leave their native nations and start again. The speakers had thought a lot about their topic and gave a clear understanding of the difficulties faced by immigrants when they move to another country.
In the end of each presentation, we had to give a summary outside in front of an audience, and all of the presentations were amazing. It was really nerve-racking at first because so many people were watching us. But as each group presented, we all did an amazing job. It was nice to see how everyone improved as they added detail and depth into their topics. The whole experience helped us get better at speaking and explaining our ideas clearly. In conclusion, we had all worked hard, and it was nice to see how much we had improved. It turned out to be a great learning experience for everyone.
Absolutely adorable!
